Internet Enemies
You know that sensation of mindlessly wasting time on the internet, the pit of dissatisfaction in your stomach after too much time on social media? Then you’re certainly not alone. This cross-medium piece reflects my tenuous relationship with the internet.
I crafted phone cases using magazine collages that juxtapose nature imagery from NatGeo with magazine clippings that spell out short, sweet phrases and questions—summing up my tenuous relationship with the internet and social media. The photographs and clippings are cut from National Geographic magazines from the 1980s, reflecting a time before the internet was widespread. My designer self has a special affinity (and hoarding problem) for these magazines and the witty, creative ads that litter their pages. Why let a good thing go to waste? This piece repurposes the art and words of the 80s in a new context.
